Coach Miguel Binion is one of those people ​- and the youth he works with and empowers are the living proof. This March, the National Association of Police Athletic/Activities Leagues Inc. (National PAL) announced the results of its first-ever PAL Photo of the Year contest - and DSAL made it into the final round as one of the top five finalists!

New murals adorn the hallways at the Hayward Adult School thanks to artist Suzanne Gayle. The murals depict a DSAL boxer whose powerful punch toward a giant dandelion puff, sending its seeds drifting down the corridor toward a youth in boxing shorts, who in turn, raises his glove to meet them. Beyond our boxers, a meadow of yellow flowers bloom.

What started as a shared commitment to showing up has grown into something powerful: a partnership built on mutual accountability, encouragement, and the kind of friendship that makes hard work feel worthwhile. Together, they've discovered that the path to personal growth is better walked with someone beside you.
