FITNESS AND PUBLIC SAFETY

DSAL develops infrastructure projects that build community and safe spaces according to the Community Capitals Framework.  We are working to create a new vision of public safety: one where crime is deterred by opportunity and support.

Low-cost fitness facilities play a pivotal role in enhancing public safety within communities. By providing accessible spaces for physical activity and exercise, the overall well-being of residents is enhanced, both physically and mentally. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, factors that can contribute to criminal behavior.  By promoting healthier lifestyles and habits, these facilities help reduce the need for unhealthy coping mechanisms, which are often linked to criminal activity.

Low-cost fitness facilities also serve as inclusive environments that bring people together, fostering social cohesion and a sense of belonging within the community. This sense of unity and mutual support acts as a deterrent to crime, as individuals are more likely to look out for one another and intervene in potentially risky situations. By investing in affordable fitness facilities, communities can create a positive cycle of health, safety, and well-being, ultimately leading to a more secure and thriving environment for all residents.
