Muevete Champion Valentino Ortega

When Carlos first joined the Muevete program three years ago, he was quiet, reserved, and unsure of his place in the room. He spoke very little, kept to himself, and didn’t yet have friendships within the class.

Today, a very different story is unfolding. Carlos now greets others with confidence, laughs freely, and is embraced as a valued member of the group - someone everyone is happy to see walk through the door.

Rising through personal challenges in his past even small gestures of connection felt unfamiliar. But, over time, through consistency, encouragement and a safe environment in class, Carlos began to blossom.

He learned how to connect with others, accept hugs, and express his emotions in healthy ways. Seeing this change has been deeply meaningful for Coach Angie who cares for him like family. Watching Carlos grow into someone who can share joy, trust others, and feel supported has been a powerful reminder of what these programs can do.

“This program changed my life because it has helped my self-esteem. What I like the most is the teacher. She is very nice and dynamic and helps us a lot. All the people in the program are also very nice and they make me feel welcomed."

Beyond emotional growth, Carlos has experienced meaningful improvements in his overall well-being. He feels healthier, has more energy, and experiences less stress and anxiety. His new confidence levels extend into his daily life, helping him stay focused and committed to his goals. He now sees his health journey as a positive challenge - one that motivates him to stay active, responsible, and engaged.

Knowing how much value he has received from the program and new community, he encouraged a senior community member to join the class too, and she loves it! What once helped Carlos feel less alone is now something he’s offering to others in need of kindness and support.

“By participating in this program you feel physically and mentally healthier, which makes a healthier community.”

Carlos’s story reflects the heart of Muevete: a program that goes beyond movement to build confidence, connection, and belonging. Through patience, consistency, and care, we are providing a space where people can heal, grow, and discover their own strength, together.
