Boxing Champion Rebecca Diaz

Rebecca always brings a smile and a positive attitude to everything she does. For over a year now, she has committed herself to DSAL Boxing training, and also stands out as one of our Rising Leader interns.

She consistently steps up to support others, set an example for her peers, and uplift everyone around her. What makes Rebecca truly special is her inspiring combination of positivity, leadership, and selflessness.

“This program helped me feel more confident about myself. I feel stronger physically and mentally. Every time I feel sad or angry, I feel better after coming to class. The coaches and my friends make me happy, and the workouts help me relieve stress and stay in shape. It gives me confidence that I can do anything.”

Beyond physical fitness, Rebecca has made new friends, learned to manage stress, and found a sense of discipline that carries into her everyday life.

“In school, I feel more relaxed, and after school, I feel excited to come to class. Walking alone, I know I can protect myself. The program helped me rethink things and stay out of trouble... I don’t like drama."

Her impact extends to the community, too. Rebecca believes that programs like DSAL Boxing can guide more youth toward positive outcomes.

“More kids would stay out of trouble if they join - there is going to be more respect. Kids will be more disciplined and feel more confident. And if they are angry, they can focus it on something good like the classes.”

Rebecca credits her support system for helping her thrive, indicating just how important it is for our community to rally around our young people.

“The coaches, my friends, and my family encouraged me to come and join the classes. They’ve made a big difference in my life.”

Through her dedication, Rebecca embodies the spirit of both DSAL Boxing and the Raising Leaders Internship Program. She is not just building a healthier body and a stronger mindset - she is becoming a role model, showing other youth that with guidance, positivity, and determination, they too can grow into confident leaders who will go far.
